Enjoy the sun safely - with the UV Standard 801
Natural UV-light from the sun is important for the body and soul. Staying outdoors for too long
without suitable sun protection can lead to serious skin damage however. Reliable protection
against harmful UV-rays is provided in particular by clothing, awnings and sunshades, used in
conjunction with sunscreen with a sun protection factor.
The UV protection offered by textiles depends to a large extent on the materials and manufacturing
processes used and cannot be assessed simply by appearance. To ascertain the UV protection factor
(UPF), complex laboratory tests are required.
Under the UV Standard 801, these tests are carried out by independent test institutes, taking into
consideration parameters arising during use such as wetting, stretching, wear or care. This enables
a realistic evaluation of the UV-protective effect of a textile to be made, which is indicated on
the label as a UV protection factor (UPF). The label UV Standard 801 therefore serves as an
important decision-making tool when purchasing all types of textile sun protection.
